Ever since its launch in 2010, Instagram has been predominantly a mobile-based platform with only a basic web version. However, this could all change with the discovery of new features suggesting that Instagram has decided to show a little more love to desktop.
High-profile app researcher Jane Manchun Wong discovered the Facebook-owned company are internally testing private messaging on their website. This drive to increase the desire to use their own messaging service could mean Instagram are trying to position themselves as the choice service for their community.
Increasing the functionality of Instagram messaging doesn’t come as a huge surprise as Facebook announced last month they are considering major changes to their messages services, Facebook Messenger, Instagram and Whatsapp.
There’s no confirmed release date at the moment and it’s not guaranteed that this update will ever be released but we’re likely to see a number of Facebook-owned messaging updates in the coming year.
